NEET Counselling Security Deposit Refund Guide

During NEET UG and PG counselling, candidates are required to pay a security deposit to become eligible for seat allotment. Once the counselling process concludes, this amount is refunded by the respective counselling authority to the candidate’s bank account within 1–2 months, provided the eligibility conditions for refund are met.


MCC ₹2 Lakh Refund for NEET UG Counselling

For Government Quota Seats (AIQ, Central Universities, AFMC, ESI, etc.)

  • Non-Refundable Registration Fee:
    • ₹1000 for UR/EWS candidates
    • ₹500 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates
  • Refundable Security Deposit:
    • ₹10,000 for UR/EWS
    • ₹5000 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD

The registration fee is non-refundable, while the security deposit is refunded after counselling if eligibility criteria are fulfilled.


For Deemed University Seats

  • Non-Refundable Registration Fee: ₹5000 (same for all categories)
  • Refundable Security Deposit: ₹2,00,000 for all candidates

NEET PG Counselling Security Deposit Refund

For Government Quota Seats (AIQ, Central Universities, DNB, etc.)

  • Non-Refundable Registration Fee:
    • ₹1000 for UR candidates
    • ₹500 for reserved category candidates
  • Refundable Security Deposit: ₹25,000 (same for all categories)

For Deemed University Seats

  • Non-Refundable Registration Fee: ₹5000 (for all categories)
  • Refundable Security Deposit: ₹2,00,000 (same for all candidates)

MCC ₹2 Lakh Refund Rules for Deemed Universities

  • If seat is allotted in Round 1 and you accept it, ₹2 lakh is refundable.
  • If seat is allotted but not joined, the candidate is allowed a free exit, and the deposit is refunded.
  • If no seat is allotted, the amount is either refunded or carried forward to the next round.

Round-Wise Refund Conditions

  • Round 2:
    • Seat accepted: ₹2 lakh refundable
    • Seat allotted but not joined: ₹2 lakh forfeited
    • Not allotted: Refund or move to next round
  • Mop-Up Round:
    • Seat allotted and not joined: ₹2 lakh forfeited
    • Not allotted: Full refund applicable
  • If you received a seat in Round 1 and participated in further rounds but didn’t get a better seat, you may withdraw and apply for refund within 2 days after the result declaration.

If you register for both All India Quota and Deemed University, total amount to pay = ₹2.05 lakh.


NEET Refund Process Timeline

  1. Refund Initiation:
    • Begins after the completion of all rounds of counselling.
    • MCC announces refund notification on www.mcc.nic.in.
  2. Timeline:
    • Refund starts within 15 days of official notification.
    • Entire process completed within 30 days.
  3. Account Details:
    • Refund is made to the same account/card used for initial payment.

“Exit with Forfeiture” in NEET Counselling

  • Applicable from Round 2 onwards.
  • If a candidate is allotted a seat and chooses not to join, the security deposit is forfeited.
  • After joining a seat in Round 3, resignation is not permitted.

Combined Payment for Both Quotas

Candidates applying for both Govt. and Deemed University seats need to pay only the higher of the two fees:

  • Example: Paying ₹2,00,000 + ₹5000 for Deemed University covers registration for both.

1. Deemed Universities

  • Registration Fee: ₹5000 (non-refundable)
  • Security Deposit: ₹2,00,000 (refundable)

2. Government Quota / AIQ / Central Universities / AFMC / ESI / AIIMS / JIPMER / B.Sc. Nursing

  • Registration Fee:
    • ₹1000 (UR/EWS)
    • ₹500 (SC/ST/OBC/PwD)
  • Security Deposit:
    • ₹10,000 (UR/EWS)
    • ₹5000 (SC/ST/OBC/PwD)

3. NEET PG

  • Same structure as NEET UG, except ₹25,000 security deposit for government quota instead of ₹10,000.

Like MCC, most state counselling authorities also refund the security deposit once the counselling process is over.

  • Uttar Pradesh – ₹2 lakh refund post-counselling
  • Haryana – ₹2 lakh refund
  • Rajasthan – ₹2 lakh refund
  • Bihar – ₹2 lakh refund
  • Other states follow similar procedures.
